Memorial "Camping" Trip 2020 - Cuyuna Recreation Area

One of our family's long standing traditions is camping every Memorial Day weekend. All other priorities are given a backseat and we make time to get away from the hectic over scheduled life we normally lead to just "be" out in nature. For the last 10+ years, we have also included our pals the Holjes and for the last 3 years, the Hedlunds. Memorial Day weekend is notoriously cold and rainy (although last year was unseasonably hot and buggy). So we broke down this year and rented a cabin for the weekend. However, all our favorite camping activities were included. And This year include a new mountain biking adventure. Our experiences didn't disappoint! Here are some of the highlights...

The boys loved making camp fires at all hours of the day...

The girls loved spending time in the Enos...

Ron spent most of his time fishing and we ALL caught tons of fish (very uncharacteristic of this crew).

We played lots of yard games, including KUB, badminton and spike ball. This year, we had a badminton tournament with random draws for teammates. Mom and Nick Hedlund took home the championship prize, defeating #1 seed Presley and Elle.

We played lots of indoor games, including Taboo, Up & Down the River, and Chess!

We ate LOTS of amazing food, including our favorite homemade donuts thanks to the Holjes!

We spent time on the lake - kayaking, paddleboating, and paddleboarding. Presley even took a swim to grab her money that fell in (brrrr!)

We had nightly bonfires. This year, Mom experimented "Carmelizing" beer with her gift Grammy. A new crowd favorite!

We had a blast mountain biking on the amazing trails in Cuyuna...

Another great year in the books! Next year it's back to the campground!
