Day 3 began early with the Pergandes and Menzies each catching a 1hour boat ride to Fitzroy Island for 4 days. Fitzroy Island is a 988 acre National Park Island with reefs right off the shore for snorkeling and diving. The Pergandes took Sunlover Reef Cruises out to the island.
For our first day on the island, we acclimated to the island and enjoyed the pool. Ironically, the kids met another family from MN at the pool. Small world...
In the afternoon, we took a short walk down to the Turtle Rehabilitation Center, a great organization which was established to save and rehabilitate injured or sick turtles and then release them back into the ocean.
The shoreline is covered in coral pieces washed up on shore from the nearby coral reefs. On our first night, Ron and I enjoyed a sunset cocktail and then skipped the coral into the ocean.
The rooms at Fitzroy included kitchenettes, which allowed us to have home cooked family meals together. Grandma Harriet and Uncle David can whip up a delicious broiled salmon with very little supplies!!
